Susan Jayne Appel PhD, ACNP-BC, FNP-BC, CCRN, FAHA, FAANP
Dr. Susan Appel is a Professor at the College of Nursing, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa and recognized for her expertise in racial differences in cardiometabolic risk (CMR) among women. Her contributions to the profession include curriculum development to prepare NP students for Certification in Advanced Diabetes Management and transitioning an ACNP program to online. Dr. Appel formulated a Middle Range theory as to why Southern African-American women have difficulty modifying CMR and has published more than 50 manuscripts/research-data-basted articles. She was awarded the Researcher in Minority Health by Southern Nurses Research Society and is a Health Disparities Scholar and Fellow of the American Heart Association.
