Professor Amaya is retired after 44 years from The University of Texas at El Paso, College of Nursing. She remains board certified, and is a 1994 graduate of the Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program at U.T. Southwestern Medical Center. She is an experienced nurse researcher, and received the 2007 UTEP Faculty Achievement Award in Research. She was co-investigator of the women's health care nurse practitioner program at UTEP in 1992. Dr. Amaya taught master's level courses, including Nursing Theories and Research. Her clinical experience spans the lifecycle, and includes childbearing and gynecology primary care.
