Shirlee Marie Drayton-Brooks PhD, CRNP, APRN-BC, FAANP
A nationally recognized nurse practitioner education leader, Dr. Drayton-Brooks is a retired Professor of Nursing and retired inaugural Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the Widener University School of Nursing in Chester, Pennsylvania. Dr. Shirlee Drayton-Brooks is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Temple University, Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, a post-master’s certificate in Family Health from Widener University’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education from Temple University’s Psychoeducational Processes Program; focusing in group dynamics, curriculum and design. She was honored to be inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She has been associated with Family Planning and Counseling Network FQHC for 19 of the last 20 years of her career as a board-certified family nurse practitioner where she has served as a preceptor for numerous students.
Dr. Drayton-Brooks served on the National Advisory Council on Nursing Education for a 4-year term under Secretary Levitt during the Bush Administration.
A past president of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioners, past service also include NONPF’s past representative on LACE Network for the implementation of the APRN Regulatory Consensus Model and past on National Task Force on Quality Nurse Practitioner Education, Criteria for the Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs. Dr. Drayton-Brooks has given numerous presentations and authored numerous articles on advanced practice nursing education and practice. Her civic engagement includes serving as the chair of the Board of Trustees of the historic Mt. Sinai Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
