Karen Dick PhD, APRN-BC, FAANP
Dr. Dick has twenty-six years of experience in professional nursing, including nineteen years as a gerontological nurse practitioner caring for patients across a variety of settings including acute, sub acute, long term and home care.
She holds a BS from Southeastern Massachusetts University, an MS in Gerontological Nursing from Boston University and a PhD in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island.
Dr. Dick has held a variety of clinical and managerial positions at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston including management of a hospital based Home Care program that utilized a nurse practitioner model. She was named a Hartford Geriatric Nurse Scholar in 2002.
Her research interests include nursing care of patients with confusion, and she has lectured nationally and internationally on the topics of cognitive impairment in the elderly, gerontological nursing practice models and the continuum of care for the elderly. Current research projects include the study of nurse practitioner practice in the home care of frail elders and how home care patients describe excellent nursing care.
She is currently an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner program at UMASS Boston.
