Dr. Lee serves as executive director of the NP-managed La Familia Senior Community Center in Wichita, Kansas. Dr. Lee, the first Kansas licensed NP, has spent 50 years developing NP roles and educational models. She significantly influences health policy through continual advocacy for establishing educational and practice standards, competencies and guidelines for NPs, culminating in the establishment of the 2024 Dr. Carla Lee Leadership Academy in honor of her contributions to NP practice. In addition to receiving the AANP’s State Award in 1993, Dr. Lee has been recognized with many awards, an appointment to the Kansas Nursing Workforce Center, American Academy of Nursing, 50th Anniversary Celebration Service Recognition, named in Who’s Who of Professional Women, Kansas State Nurses Association-Research Recognition Award, Neighborhoods, Best Neighborhood Award: Celebrating Diversity Program, the Andrus Award-Community Service and Kansas Nurses Hall of Fame.
