Claudia M Hauri EdD, FNP, FAANP
Dr. Hauri is currently retired from academia yet still maintains a part time practice, teaching and consulting. She was Director of NP Program at Barry University, Miami, Florida, for 21 years, previously 8 years at the University of Miami, FL She is known for her innovative teaching strategies and mentoring.
Educated Health Care Choices is currently the umbrella for Dr Hauri's practice, teaching & consulting.
Practice: has been for over 30 years as the NP advocate for the Association for Retarded Citizens (Arc) , of South Florida. This includes the health maintenance of adults living in group homes , helping staff cook a great chicken soup, deal with behavioral issues, be a health surrogate for those who have no family, counsel staff when needed ( staff or client death). Physical exam done of complaints as needed along with giving Staff the information to take & questions to ask.prior to physician visit. Practice has also included charitable women's health issues in Nicaragua & a visit to Cuba with Caritas to evaluate child care
Education: continues to groups & individuals regarding the need for Advanced Directives, & get a second opinion. whether single, married, young or old, how to choose a caretaker/company, the sequence if breast tumor found for exams/biopsy/surgery to groups ( NAWBO), how to select a physician/surgeon or be coordinator of care during hospitalization or after discharge.
Consulting: is done thru' the NationalNP Finder in which people have called requesting information regarding the care of a family member in a hospital or nursing home is requested by a family member. Consulting has also been as an expert witness and malpractice case review.
Dr Hauri has been passionate about nursing since a 'youngster and remains so today. She will mentor students or aspiring nurses asking for help, and spoke to a group of adoptive parents while on a WHO requested teaching session in Bogota, Colombia.
She has been active in supporting prescriptive authority in
Florida since the 1980's and has contacted legislators numerous times seeking support for important health care bills. She has been past President of District 21 in south Florida & facilitated the merger of 21 with District 5 so nursing would speak with a united voice. She has been a member of Florida Nurses Association (FNA) since 19975.
In addition, Dr. Hauri
has presented extensively both nationally and internationally in the
Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, Columbia, Peru, and Chile and is committed
to advanced practice nursing globally. She is fluent in German and Spanish and
is a partner in InterNational Nurse Practitioner Consultants.
