M Elayne Desimone PhD, NP-C, FAANP
M. Elayne DeSimone is a graduate of one of the first nurse practitioner programs at Stony Brook University in 1981 as a critical care nurse practitioner. Over fifty years of clinical and teaching experience has taken her from critical care to research to primary health care. She has taught nurse practitioner students in several major universities over thirty- seven years, while maintaining an active clinical practice. Presently, Elayne is the Editor in Chief of the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, is a weekly NP volunteer at Community Volunteers in Medicine, a free primary care clinic for the uninsured in West Chester, PA., and an active advisory board member of Chester Community Coalition, a violence interuption and gun- violence prevention organization. As an early advocate for nurse practitioners, she co- founded the Nurse Practitioner Association of Long Island and was a past president of both the New York State Nurse Practitioner Association and the American College of Clinicians. She is dually certified in Adult Health and Family Health and a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
