Patricia Ann Watts Kelley, PhD, RN, FNP-C, GNP-C, FAANP, FAAN
Dr. Kelley is currently a Professor, and Director of the Veteran to Bachelors Program, Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA. She served in the United States Navy, retiring at the rank of Captain. Additionally, she is a Board Member of the Navy Safe Harbor Foundation; which is dedicated to supporting the recovery of seriously wounded, ill, and injured Sailors, Coast Guardsmen, and their families. She was recognized as the 2013 Catholic University of America Alumnae for her dedication to Military and Veteran research.
Dr. Kelley is an experienced researcher, clinician and leader who pioneered programs and infrastructures for Military and Veterans Affairs nursing research. She created and sustained Evidence Based Practice within the Department of Defense. Dr. Kelley’s research addresses Clinical Knowledge Development in Combat Care and Continuity of Care for Wounded Warriors. Her studies have led to improved strategies for care of Mass Casualties, described the emerging role of Military Nurse Case Managers for poly-trauma patients and the development of a new approach to understanding military patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Dr. Kelley’s research addresses Clinical Knowledge Development in Combat Care and Continuity of Care of service-members. Her data sets are the largest ever collected on the role of the nurse in care of wounded warriors.
Her work has influenced health care delivery within the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs She holds Editorial Board positions on the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Annual Review of Nursing Research. She has received numerous military and civilian awards.
Dr. Kelley received a diploma from Boston Department of Health and Hospitals Practical Nursing Program, an AS from Northeastern University, a BSN from the American University, a MS specializing in Gerontology from Boston University, a Post Masters Certificate in Family Primary Care from Northeastern University, and a PhD from The Catholic University of America.
