Veronica Farmer Wilbur PhD APRN-FNP, CNE, FAANP
Dr. Wilbur's extensive experience as a nurse and nurse practitioner spans over 44 years and 29 years, respectively, during which she has served in various roles, including faculty in higher education and patient care practice in primary care. As a faculty member, however, her true passion lies in preparing future nursing leaders. For over 31 years, she has been a faculty member, guiding and shaping the many roles of RN-BSN, FNP, AGNP, nurse educators, and adult/gerontology clinical specialists in MSN and DNP programs at West Chester and Wilmington Universities. Her leadership roles, including Chair of the NP and DNP programs and Program Coordinator of the Graduate programs, are not just titles but responsibilities she takes seriously. They further demonstrate her commitment to advancing the nursing profession.
Dr. Wilbur's dedication to patient care is not just a professional obligation but a personal commitment. She maintains a current FNP practice in primary care and urgent health care in Wilmington and Newark, Delaware. Her specialization in providing comprehensive care for patients with multiple chronic conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol issues, is a testament to her unwavering commitment. Additionally, she offers services for women's health, preteens, adolescents, and individuals of all ages. Her patient and family care philosophy are about providing evidence-based healthcare, treatment, and patient engagement, ensuring that each individual feels heard and valued in their healthcare journey.
Dr. Wilbur's contributions to the nursing field are extensive but also unique and impactful. Her educational preparation, including a BSN from the University of Delaware, MSN in Burn, Emergency, Trauma, and Ph.D. in Nursing Science from Widener University in Chester, PA, and a Post-Graduate certificate as FNP from Wilmington University, have equipped her with the knowledge and skills to have influence. She is a co-editor of an advanced pharmacology book, a rare achievement in the field, and has contributed to clinical guidelines for nurse practitioners. Her presentations, which cover a wide range of topics for nurse practitioner education and clinical issues about antimicrobial stewardship, cough in primary care, concussions, diabetes mellitus, and the care of patients with insomnia in primary care, have been well-received. She has presented for many years at the AANP National Conference. Dr. Wilbur's local and national leadership positions in the Delaware Coalition of Nurse Practitioners and previously in the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty demonstrate her commitment to advancing the profession. As a fellow, she has been reviewing abstracts and scholarships for the national AANP conference since 2013. As a Fellow, she has been on the FAANP Nominations Committee as a member and the chair since 2020, further solidifying her influence in the field.
