Currently not working but volunteered for the Medical Reserve Corps in New Mexico and remain engaged with the New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council.
After retiring from the VA, covered one of the cardiology clinics for the University of New Mexico from which I have also retired.
Retired from the VA after 21 years.
Ms. Powers is board certified in Family Practice and Acute Care and is the only Cardiology NP at the Regional V.A. Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. She educates cardiology fellows and is involved with policy, practice, education, and research across disciplines. She is an inspiration and exemplary role model and mentor for NPs in collaborative and independent practice within the state and nationally. Joyce was instrumental in developing he landmark policy for the Advanced Nurse Practice Act of New Mexico adopted 20 years ago which provided for NP independent practice. She remains passionately involved in all policy issues related to NPs.
