Reba Moyer Childress MSN, RN, FNP, FAANP, ANEF
Ms. Reba Moyer Childress, MSN, RN, FNP, FAANP, ANEF is an avid supporter of the use of simulation within undergraduate and graduate healthcare education as well as within practice.
Ms. Childress is one of the founders of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL). She has served in various roles within INACSL (VP for Finance, Interim Membership Chair, Conference Planning Committee, reviewer of INACSL Standards). Ms. Childress currently serves on the INACSL Membership Committee as well as the Simulation Regulation Review Committee.
In an effort to support the needs of Virginia, Ms. Childress founded the Virginia State Simulation Alliance (VASSA) in 2005. She is the president of this state-wide, interprofessional simulation organization. Through the collaborative efforts between VASSA and the Virginia Board of Nursing, Virginia's use of simulation was regulated in 2009.
Ms. Childress was one of the 8 coordinators that supported the work of the first NLN/Laerdal Simulation grant that studied the use of simulation in nursing education. This was done while serving as the director of the Mary Morton Parsons Clinical Simulation Center at the University of Virginia (UVA). Ms. Childress is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UVA School of Nursing and a full-time Nursing Professional Development Specialist for UVA Medical System. Within this latter role, she collaborates with the Women's Services Team to conduct inter-professional, in-situ simulations to help improve quality of care for mothers and her newborn(s) as well as enhance team work between healthcare providers.
