Dr. Smith has dedicated her career to breaking barriers for Nurse Practitioners in the VA system. Dr. Smith serves as a role model to Nurse Practitioners throughout the Veterans Health Administration demonstrating the ability for Nurse Practitioners to provide senior level leadership in complex healthcare systems. She also serves as a consultant regarding continuing education and peer review for Nurse Practitioners and implementation of the NP role in varied settings. Dr. Smith is an accomplished presenter and has authored numerous publications. She is actively involved in healthcare research and holds faculty positions teaching Nurse Practitioner students.
