Phyllis D Morgan PhD, FNP-BC, FAANP
Phyllis D. Morgan received her PhD in Nursing at Hampton University May 2002. She is the first to complete a PhD in nursing from a Historically Black College and/or University. She completed her Master's of Science in Nursing from Hampton University and her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Florida State University. Dr. Morgan completed a post doctoral fellowship in health disparities research at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. Dr. Morgan has been a nurse educator, researcher, and clinician for several years. She was former Chair at the Fayetteville State University Department of Nursing (FSU-DON). Under her leadership the NCLEX-RN board scores increased from 39% to 88%. Dr. Morgan is full-time core faculty at the Walden University School of Nursing since May 2010. Also she is Lead Faculty, and a Faculty Mentor for the Walden University nursing program. Dr. Morgan is a certified family nurse practitioner (FNP). She practices part-time as a FNP for CVS Minute Clinic stores located in the Northern Virginia area. She has practiced as a nurse practitioner in clinical areas such as college health, women's health, indigent care, primary care, and military health care. Dr. Morgan's areas of research study are African American women's breast cancer treatment, African American couples coping with breast cancer, and African Americans and colorectal cancer. She has published several research articles and has done several national presentations. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and a member of several nursing organizations.
