Shanna Denae Chapman DNP, FNP-C, FAANP
Dr Shanna Chapman is a Family Nurse Practitioner. Dr Chapman has previously worked five years in specialty as an Ears, Nose & Throat Nurse Practitioner, 5 ½ years at the Department of the VA as a primary care NP, owned her own practice, worked as a hospitalist, currently works in Forensics, and has worked in online academic administration since 2012.
Dr Chapman began her education as a CNA. She received her first degree from Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield, MO. She then realized her passion for nursing while being an LPN and returned to school and obtained her ADN/ RN degree from Crowder College in Neosho, MO. As an RN, she worked in the ER, which was her passion. After being promoted to being an ER Manager, she then obtained her BSN from MU in Columbia. After a couple of years, she decided to pursue being a FNP and obtained her MSN from University of Missouri – Kansas City in 2005. Last but not least, she obtained her DNP at University of Iowa in Healthcare Policy
In Dr Chapman's spare time, she pursues her passion of healthcare policy at the capitol in Jefferson City. She is the founding officer of the Association of Missouri Nurse Practitioners (the first state wide association for APRNs). She has had the honor as testifying as an expert witness for both the Senate and the House on a variety of legislative issues from APN practices, Nursing Practices, Prescription Drug Monitoring, and Workforce Occupational Issues. Dr Chapman co-wrote the Missouri White Paper detailing APN practices, the 2012 Barrier Free Legislation, 2013 Access Free Legislation, 2015 Full Practice Authority, then 2017 to 2021 legislative plans. For her work at the capitol, she received the AANP 2012 State of Missouri Clinical Excellence Award. Dr Chapman was recently awarded her “fellow” through the AANP and completed the mentorship program. Dr. Chapman was elected the Region 7 Board of Director, through AANP, for Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska in 2021 - 2023. She has edited and written several chapters in textbooks on Health Policy for the DNP student and Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Physical Assessment.
