Deborah L Schofield PhD., DNP, CRNP, FAANP
Dr. Schofield is the first Nurse Practitioner to be selected as the Director of Patient Safety and Quality at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) beginning August 2015. In her former role, she was the Senior Program Manager for NP specialty areas at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She implemented the first NP post-graduate fellowship in the Mid-Atlantic area and is an expert on implementation of NP fellowship programs and consults nationally. Dr. Schofield was an early leader in defining the role and scope of practice for emergency medicine NPs and successfully implemented the first emergency medicine and psychiatric emergency NP teams at UMMC. She was a CCNE Board of Commissioners member and editorial board member for numerous journals. She received the UMMC Excellence in Advanced Practice Nursing Award.
After 18 years at the University of Maryland Medical Center in these various leadership roles, she accepted the role of Director of Advanced Practice at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in August 2022. Here, she successfully: established safe APP to patient ratios, established the first APP Hospitalist Residency program and became the Chair of the Throughput Committee, charged with the expedition of patients' door to hospital/discharge stays. She ended her tenure at GBMC and rejoined UMMC's Population Health program and implemented the Midtown Comprehensive Care Center for patients requiring a safety net for care.
