Desiree Mullis Clement DNP, APRN, CNM, FNP-BC, FACNM, FAANP, FAAN
Desireé M. Clement, DNP, APRN, CNM, FNP-BC, FACNM, FAANP, FAAN, is a navy veteran, certified nurse-midwife, and family nurse practitioner. A nationally recognized expert in women’s health and health policy, she also holds Fellowships in the American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Nurse Practitioners and American Academy of Nursing. In 2013, after delivering more than 2,000 babies, she transitioned full-time into academe. Presently, she is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Academic Operations at the Emory University, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. Her areas of research mainly focus on innovative teaching strategies, health policy focused on removing barriers on APRN practice to improve access to care, and women’s health. Dr. Clement also has experience in curriculum development, development of simulation activities to enhance student learning, and building clinical community partnerships to increase preceptorship opportunities to enhance student learning. Her deep understanding of various pedagogical approaches and experience holding multiple leadership roles inside academe fosters her desire to mentor others in the development and implementation of innovative instructional strategies for enhancing nursing education. Additionally, she has been previously called upon by the Georgia legislature to provide legislative testimony on issues impacting nursing and APRN scope of practice in Georgia. She is also the Co-PI and curriculum/training lead on a multi-million-dollar, four-year funded HRSA grant, called CAPES Academy that is helping to increase clinical instructors and preceptors training and growth throughout the Southeast. In 2025, she received the AANP Award for Outstanding Contributions for the state of Georgia.
