Sharona Johnson PhD, APRN, FNP-BC, NE-C, FAANP
Dr. Johnson is the system administrator for advanced clinical practice at ECU Health and a clinical assistant professor at East Carolina University College of Nursing. With over 19 years of experience in nephrology, she is a nationally recognized expert and speaker on the clinical and psychosocial impacts of kidney disease, particularly for underserved populations. A leader in advancing health care policy, Dr. Johnson secured a $2.7 million HRSA grant to develop APRN preceptors in rural areas and led efforts to enhance APRN full practice authority in NC. Appointed to the NC Medical Board, she has championed policy reforms to improve health care access and equity, as well as spearheaded the creation of the region's first adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner program, which will launch in 2025 to improve workforce development and critical care services.
