Umeika Makita Stephens DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, FAANP
Dr. Stephens is an assistant clinical professor and the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner graduate specialty coordinator at Wayne State University. She is a dual-certified family and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner with a focus on the provision of holistic, patient-centered mental health care for over two decades in Detroit, Michigan. Her passion is working in the community to address health disparities that impact patients’ access to culturally sensitive mental health services. She is active in policy to expand the scope of practice for nurse practitioners. Over the course of her career in academia, Dr. Stephens has received over nine million dollars in grant funds to advance clinical education training. She is the co-author of the first urban health nursing textbook focused on practice application of clinical learning.
