Dr. Kelly D. Rosenberger is a Clinical Associate Professor and the Founder and Director of the Rural Nursing Certificate Program at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). Kelly also maintained a robust clinical practice at UI Health Mile Square LP Johnson Family Health Center in Rockford for many years focusing on meeting the needs of underserved/uninsured communities utilizing a patient-centered model of care that combines teamwork and information technology to improve patient care/experience while reducing costs, earning the highest national recognition. Dr. Rosenberger’s work includes the development of innovative interprofessional educational models, advancing rural APRN practice, and serving the needs of underserved/uninsured populations. She is recognized as a visionary leader, passionate practitioner, devoted educator, and supportive mentor.
As PI of several HRSA Training grants: Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) 1D19HP42044-01-00 (2021-2025, $2.22 million) and Nursing Workforce Eldercare Enhancement (NWED-E2) (1D1942698-01-00 (2021-2022, $362,335.00 one year), ) Enhancing Nursing Education and Retention by Initiation of Care Delivered by Mobile Health Clinics (ENRICH). Health Resources and Services Administration NEPQR-MHTP program (UK1HP46065 funded for $3.1 million over 4 years), and Co-PI mentoring junior faculty on Increasing the Maternal Healthcare Advanced Practice Nursing Workforce (IMPACT) Health Resources and Services Administration, Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) Program (T94HP49358 funded for $2,599,820 over 4 years), Kelly has designed and implemented nursing training activities for diverse nursing students using evidence-based strategies to address the needs of underserved populations in rural and medically underserved communities. This includes didactic and experiential curriculum development and reducing financial barriers of diverse nursing students by scholarship and providing telehealth certification training to all students. Kelly also has over 27 years of experience providing healthcare to underserved patients at an FQHC as an advanced practice clinician and preceptor with clinical expertise in reproductive health, family planning, pregnancy, and sexual health. Kelly is the lead author and editor of the resource Guidelines for Nurse Practitioners in Ambulatory Obstetric Settings, Third Edition, Springer Publishing Company, LLC, New York, NY. This textbook provides expert clinical practice knowledge with up-to-date guidelines for high-quality ambulatory obstetric and sexual healthcare and is used globally as a resource for practicing clinicians and in nurse practitioner and nurse-midwifery educational programs.
